Deadly avalanches in the Salang Pass.

Vehicles are seen covered with snow at an avalanche site at the Salang Pass, 115 kilometers north of Kabul. The death toll from massive avalanches that blocked a mountain pass north of Kabul soared, as rescuers recovered 165 bodies, while hundreds more remained trapped in their snowbound vehicles. Afghan soldiers and villagers used home-made tools to dig for bodies and survivors. Rescue efforts have generated national pride, Salang Pass Parwan Province Afghanistan. Wednesday 10 February 2010
